FOR the sake of marks or knowledge?

June 9, 2008

A new term in school,just like any other.Well not really ,i am in 12th,the year of the “BOARDS”.All the teachers “sermonized”(to quote my English teacher ) on the importance of securing good marks.So it brings me to the question,do we go to school for the sake of marks or for the sake of knowledge?

    For the sake of marks ofcourse! πŸ™‚ The knowledge comes later, after you leave school but you get an opportunity to get that knowledge only if you get good marks! πŸ™‚

    It depends, what kind of knowledge you’d want…

    If you want to learn physics… you have to study your text… and if u do that… u’ll get marks…

    what’s important is to have belief in yourself that you’ll do good…

    It’s rubbish to say that people who get marks don’t have knowledge…

    I agree with you sameer…! They mug up the whole text and get a good score. And people keep pestering the the ones who have got low marks saying that you are good for nothing, useless… Like what big thing has the student done in getting everything in the text mugged and scoring a high marks.

    I guess the one who has scored low marks must be having a good knowledge that that of the student who has scored high marks..!

    @balu: *sigh*

    @nita: lol,so it means lose your self to the system,in hope of a better future?

    @sameer: i didn’t say that πŸ™‚ I was refering to the way marks seem the most important thing…i have friends who get marks and also have the knowledge…but i have heard people telling that ,even though they knew the answers,because it wasn’t the same as in the text book or they used another method,they lost marks..

    only thing is we have to learn by ourself on these school and college life.. rather than expecting from books and lecturers.. that’s the way….

    @Teky I dont say all lecturers are good..but sometimes they r so good that we learn a lot from them..sometimes they r the reason we develop interest in a subject. And leave lecturers but how can u expect to “learn by ourself” without books??? sit under a bodh gaya tree??

    If you gain knowledge, you will gain the marks automatically. It should not be the other way round. πŸ™‚

    @teky: when we have good teachers( i have come across a few),you just need to brush the books,they make you enjoy the subject…and well marks will come on their own,like amit said πŸ™‚

    @rekha: πŸ™‚

    @amit: aye ,aye sir πŸ™‚

    @Reema & Visheh
    I’m not blaming lecturers. I got many good lecturers who were so much dedicated. I’m saying that you have to learn a lot apart from your academics. You will get to know this when u were in college life. Whatever u learn in academics is all for marks.

    Learn apart from academics. Read people. That will surely help for your life…

    coming to think of it…the indian system of education just wants us to mug n mug…they don’t really bother to find out if we’ve learnt anything…personally speaking…i’ve just done my 12th…n i got really good marks in physics…but the truth is…i don’t understand a word of what i’ve “studied”…

    i’m not trying to put the system down or anything…i mean no offence…sometimes you’ve got to ask yourself if you really understand what’s being forced into your head…getting marks is only part of the job done…
