Terror Strikes Bangalore!

2008 July 25

Bangalore was rocked by a series of seven low-intensity blasts today, starting at 1.30 pm IST, spaced 12 minutes apart. One woman is confirmed dead and several others are injured.

What the hell is this world coming to?

Considered the Silicon Valley of India, Bangalore has been a terrorist “hot-spot” for quite a few years now. Bomb threats had been reported on a daily basis, and most of them turned out to be hoaxes. Today, we have realized that the city’s security measures are quite inadequate and that the police and intelligence departments aren’t up to the mark in processing the information they have. But that’s always been the case with India. It always takes a disaster like this one to make people sit up and take notice of the very real threat we are facing.

The people of Bangalore have always been a resilient lot, and it made my heart light when I saw complete strangers showing support for each other and saying things like, “It’s ok, we can get through this!” and “Don’t worry, they can’t break us!”

Support has been pouring in from all quarters of the globe and this attack has been chastised by all. Public transportation has not been disrupted, schools and offices have not been closed, people’s lives hasn’t changed much except for being a little wiser about the possibility of such attacks.

My most sincere condolences to all those who have been personally affected by this attack and I do hope that your spirit is strong enough to get through this ordeal. To quote a line from the movie Gandhi, “You can break my body, but not my spirit! We are not afraid!”

    fortunately the blasts were low intensity…many of us didn’t even know about them until we came home from school/college/office….
    I think this proves that no place can be called safe…

    @Kaddhu
    Yes.. Also puts a kind of paranoia in our heads, doesn’t it?

    what infuriates me the most is that innocent lives are lost or destroyed for absolutely no reason…

    @Kaddhu
    Yup.. I don’t know about torching them to death, because that’d mean there’s no difference between them and us… :)

    yes we need to be brave!

    I feel sorry that such things are still happening. 7 is a huge number. even if they were of low intensity, i dont think its easy to plant and blow seven bombs. I feel tighter security is the only way out. what do u all say? and also, people should be aware of their surrounding.

    Yes, terror attacks are heinious crimes against humanity. I being in Mumbai have seen so many happen around me and you always think, I could have been there had I done that? But then, that doesn’t prevent me from taking the same route again. It shouldn’t. If I do, then I am letting the motive of the terrorists succeed. Be cautious, not afraid.

    I didn’t even know about them until I went home by 3.30. No place in the world is safe for that matter. It was Jaipur before, now its Bangalore, tomorrow it maybe any damn place on the earth.

    //But that’s always been the case with India. //
    Nikhil, you shouldn’t have made such a statement.

    This was kind of sad…Bangalore to me is a kind of a spot which shows the growing India, the shining India…and it’s sad that this is happening. But I guess that is exactly why the terrorists are doing it. They are terribly jealous of this wonderful throbbing fantastic city!! And the people of Bangalore will never get terrorised, of that I am sure.

    and now ther are bomb blasts in ahemdabad. it is very sad to know that terrorists are active inspite of such security.

    Yes Hasit, Priya’s ‘any damn place on Earth’ turned out to be Ahmedabad, hit 15 times when I last saw the news. I think they will give our country some respite on a Sunday at least!

    the only happy thing i heard in the news is that they have traces an email and its location. hope they start acting as soon as possible. nobody wants more of this bloodshed.

  14. 2008 July 27

    If they did this for creating panic around the country,what we should do is to be brave!! :)
    show them “we are not afraid to die ,if we are all together “

    @Nikhil
    i said torcher not torch…
    the 18 blasts in Ahmedabad seem to have been even worse…
    After one of the blasts, people were rushed to a nearby hospital…and then there was a blast at the hospital entrance…it was timed to take more lives…
    That is absolutely sadistic…whoever is responsible for this deserves capital punishment…

  16. 2008 July 29

    @Kaddhu: Yeah, they deserve capital punishment if they are found & torching or torturing is again illegal and again for that one has to find them.
